Portraits

Maree's life drawing skills began at a young age and were recognised as an arts student. Friends recall the images of saints she drew for nuns while at boarding school, including some on the classroom chalkboards. She created hundreds of portraits in her lifetime. Sitters [or subjects] included friends, family, art class models, lawyers, court staff and people in custody [ or just 'in the courts'] as they appeared briefly before judicial officials. She used a great variety of media, representing people in both abstract and realistic forms.

Self portraiture both challenged and pleased Maree. These images reflect a balance of objective and subjective viewpoints.
